Wearing contact lenses instead of eyeglasses is a choice made by many people who prefer the better vision and appearance that contact lenses provide. They provide better peripheral vision, less distortion and do not have the fogging or slipping problems of glasses. Today's contact lens designs and materials are extremely comfortable and much easier to maintain. With proper professional care provided by our doctors and staff, contact lenses can provide a safe, comfortable and convenient way to correct your vision.

Regular eye examinations by the doctors in our office along with good daily eye hygiene and regular lens replacement are the key to keeping your contact lenses comfortable and clear, and your eyes healthy for years to come.

Our office recommends the use of "disposable" or frequent replacement lenses. These lenses deliver more oxygen to your cornea, which is essential for good eye health. They have less biofilm deposits or "build-up", and are, therefore, less likely to produce any of the effects of wearing "old" contact lenses.

There are many types of disposable contact lenses, including lenses for astigmatism. We will recommend the type of lens best suited to your eyes and vision as well as your intended use of the lenses. We will show you simple and effective ways of keeping them clean and disinfected. We will also prescribe the wearing and replacement schedules for your type of lens to ensure your lenses perform optimally and safely.

Regular contact lens evaluations will be scheduled to ensure your eyes remain healthy, your vision clear, and your contact lenses comfortable. However, please feel free to call us anytime should you have any concerns regarding your contact lenses.

Types of Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are available to correct all types of refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism).

In addition contact lenses are available to allow people to read who have the age related focusing problem of "presbyopia". This can be corrected by either bifocal contact lenses, or through a system called "mono vision".

A variety of contact lens materials are available and different lens plastics and designs are used for specific purposes to optimize comfort and fit.

In addition a number of wearing modalities are available. These range from lenses which can be worn for up to a year, to contact lenses which are worn once and then thrown away. These "one day" contact lenses are especially useful for patients who wear lenses very occasionally.
